Why the model likes Rutgers
- Rutgers rates 171st of 366 teams, New Haven 330th: an upper-half team against one of the weakest teams in Division I.
- The two are close on both ends: offense 270th vs 342nd, defense 334th vs 152nd.
- New Haven’s numbers came against the 32nd-easiest schedule, so they are discounted.
- Home court adds 2.7 points for Rutgers.
- The books have Rutgers by 24.5, more than the model’s gap supports, so the spread value is on New Haven +24.5.
- Projected total 139, in line with the 142.5 over/under.
- Early-season note: these numbers are still entirely last season’s; this season’s games take over as they are played.
